THE NOMAD TRAWLER

Take a look around the cabin:  You’ll find all you should need to have a great cruise. Download and view our PDF brochures to familiarize yourself with the boat before ever stepping onboard. Remember, your vacation on the canal is definitely “life in the slow lane.”

You and everybody else drifts through the aquatic dreamland at a maximum of 10 mph, and you’ll be stopping often! You can’t rush the timing of locks or lift-bridges. Your new motto: IT'S ALWAYS CALM – ON THE CANAL!

CLOTHING FOR THE CANAL:
Casual attire is absolutely the rule. You’ll be going NOWHERE requiring “a coat and tie”. There is always a 10 mph breeze blowing through the cockpit underway – New York days are reliably pleasant, and the nights almost always cool off. You have full control of your environment with the A/C and heater while on the dock. Iit's amazingly comfortable on board, regardless of the weather. It sometimes ‘showers” on the canal, but seldom “rains all day.” We keep light rain gear and an umbrella on board for you for the times you might experience a shower while ‘locking through’, or traveling to your new favorite spots ashore.

SHOES:
We hardly wear them, except to go ashore. Hard leather soles are dangerous and slippery. Plan to wear your tennis or deck shoes on shore, and go barefoot (or socks if you must) on the boat. That's what we do. We have become big fans of Sebago Docksiders. We nearly wore our first pair out the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show where we "discovered" their comfort, and durability. Any good walking shoe with non marking soles will be great.

SUN PROTECTION:
Although you’re navigating from inside the cabin, the glare from the flat canal water can be tiresome – so bring your sunglasses. We always remind our boaters to apply Sunscreen early and vigorously. A comfortable hat for all your outside activity is a very good idea.

PERSONAL STUFF:
Everybody’s got favorite things they can’t travel without. Interestingly enough, it’s almost always something different. Our first mate always brings her own cloth shopping bags, carefully designed to be too heavy for her to carry after an afternoon’s shopping ashore. We always get to carry them back aboard – including the baguettes for dinner! We left two onboard for you to use.

ENTERTAINMENT:
Enjoy our DVD/CD system. We’ve got a few favorite DVD's, and CD’s aboard – but by all means bring some of your favorites. The equipment aboard is there for your use and enjoyment.

CAMERA / FILM:
You’re going to take a LOT of pictures – stills, videos, whatever. Be sure to bring plenty of film or tape or disks or whatever media you need. It's better to bring more than you will need of these items.

CELL PHONE
Bring along your own personal cell-phone and your 12V or 110V charger. You will find all the locks, restaurants, marinas, and even some new friends on the canal can be easily reached by cell phone. You can use your 12v (car) charger anytime, and your 110V when connected to shore power at the docks
